It is a microcrystalline variety of Chalcedony, mainly in massive form. The hardness of Agate is equal to 7/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond) and its density is 2.7 (1 for water). The line on the porcelain is white.
BLUE AGATE STONE is often sold in slices and artificially colored, but it can also be found naturally blue.
That of other agates varies according to their concentric bands, from colorless to white, passing through blue, brown, green and gray.
The name Agate comes from the Achates River in Sicily. This river is now called the Dirillo.
