Chrysoprase
CHRYSOPRASE belongs to the silicate group. It mainly contains silicon and oxygen and has the same chemical formula as Quartz: SiO 2 .
It is a compact microcrystalline variety similar to Chalcedony but with a specific green color due to the presence of nickel.
CHRYSOPRASE occurs in massive form. It is a very hard stone that reaches 7/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond). Its density is 2.7 (1 for water) and the line on porcelain is white.
Its color is more or less dark green, but generally leek green from the Greek word prason which means leek .
