Gold
Gold belongs to the group of native elements. It has been used since 4000 BC, or for 6000 years. The chemical symbol is Au.
It occurs in an octahedral or dodecahedral form when crystallized. However, gold is most often found in dendritic form, as grains, flakes, or nuggets.
The hardness of gold varies between 2.5 and 3/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond) and its density is 19.3 (1 for water). The line on the porcelain is golden yellow.
Natural gold is too malleable to be worked in jewelry; this is why it is combined with other metals such as silver, iron, copper...
The color of gold is yellow-brown with metallic reflections. The name gold comes from the Latin word aurum .
