AGATE belongs to the silicate group. It contains silicon and has the same chemical formula as Quartz, Chalcedony or Amethyst: SiO 2 .
AGATE is often sold in slices and sometimes artificially colored, but it is also found in solid form.
The color of AGATE varies with its concentric bands, from colorless to white, passing through blue, brown, gray and green which gives it its name of moss agate.
The "flower" Agate is translucent and reveals spots formed by secondary crystallization.
