SERAPHINITE is a variety of CLINOCHLOR and belongs to the silicate group. It contains magnesium, iron, aluminum, and silicon. Its chemical formula is (Mg,Fe,Al)6(Al,Si)4O10(OH)8.

The word "chlorine" has no relation to the gas but to the Greek word chloros which means the color green. The hardness of Seraphinite varies between 2 and 2.5/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond), it is a soft stone. Once polished, it produces magnificent shimmering white on green patterns resembling feathers.

Seraphinite comes from Russia, mainly from the Lake Baikal region.
