Chrysoprase belongs to the silicate group. It mainly contains silicon and oxygen and has the same chemical formula as Quartz. It is a compact microcrystalline variety similar to Chalcedony but with a specific green color due to the presence of nickel. Chrysoprase occurs in massive form. It is a very hard stone. Its color is more or less dark green, but generally "apple green" from which it takes its name.
