Hematite belongs to the oxide group. It mainly contains iron. Hematite is not magnetic. The crystals are usually mammillary. When it occurs in the form of coarse crystals that reflect light, it is called specularite. Some specimens resemble desert roses and are called iron roses. Hematite is black in color and produces a red streak on porcelain.
