WHITE MICA occurs as flat, roughly hexagonal crystals. It is the mineral commonly known as "mica."
Its color is generally white, yellow, or pinkish-brown. The hardness of white mica ranges from 2 to 2.5/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond) and its average density is slightly less than 2.8 (1 for water). The line on porcelain is almost colorless.
The name Muscovite comes from the British name for the city of Moscow.
