White mica comes in the form of flat crystals with a roughly hexagonal shape. It is the mineral commonly called "mica".
Its color is generally white, yellow, or pinkish-brown. The hardness of white mica ranges from 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond), and its average density is slightly less than 2.8 (1 for water). The streak on porcelain is almost colorless.
The name Muscovite comes from the British name for the city of Moscow.
