Pezzottaite belongs to the silicate group. It contains cesium, beryllium, lithium, aluminum, and silicon. Its chemical formula is Cs(Be2Li)Al2Si6O18.

It is a variety of Beryl, like Emerald or Aquamarine but a different Beryl because it contains cesium and Lithium.

Pezzottaite has an average density of 3.1 (1 for water) and a hardness of 8/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond). The streak on the porcelain is white.

The color of pezzottaite varies from red to pink, and its crystals are usually tabular. The rough form is irregularly massive.

The pezzottaïte deposit mined in Madagascar is exhausted, making this mineral very rare and expensive. Its name comes from the geologist Frederico Pezzotta.
