QUARTZ belongs to the silicate group. It mainly contains silicon. It appears in a massive form or in prismatic crystals. Depending on the impurities it contains, this mineral displays various colors such as pink, yellow, purple, or black. Colorless QUARTZ is called rock crystal. It is a very common mineral found in almost all types of rock. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 7/10!
Marmatite belongs to the sulfide group. It contains zinc, iron, and sulfur. It is an iron-rich variety of Blende. Marmatite occurs massively or as dodecahedral or tetrahedral crystals. Marmatite has a dark brown to black color with a metallic sheen.
Pyrite belongs to the sulfide group. It contains iron and sulfur. It is an iron disulfide. Its chemical formula is FeS2.
It occurs in the form of aggregate in its raw form, giving golden metallic reflections. In its crystallized form, we find crystals most often cubic of good size and more rarely octahedral or dodecahedral.
Pyrite has a hardness greater than 6/10 and a density of 5 (1 for water). The line on the porcelain is black.
Pyrite has the same chemical formula as Marcasite, but the latter has a radiant crystallization. Due to its golden metallic luster, Pyrite has often been mistaken for gold.
