VANADINITE belongs to the phosphate group. It contains lead and vanadium. Its chemical formula is Pb 5 (VO 4 )Cl 3 .
Vanadinite usually occurs as tabular, hexagonal, and rarely acicular crystals. Its color varies from brown to bright orange, through yellow and red.
The hardness of Vanadinite is 3/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond) and its density is approximately 7 (1 for water). The line on porcelain is yellow-brown.
ENDLICHITE is an arsenic-rich variety of Vanadinite and if the vanadium is replaced by Arsenic, the Vanadinite becomes Mimetite.
The name Vanadinite is directly related to vanadium.
