Actinolite belongs to the silicate group. It contains calcium, magnesium, iron , and silicon. Its chemical formula is Ca₂ (Mg,Fe) (OH,F) ( Si₄O₁₁ ) . When the proportion of magnesium is greater than that of iron, actinolite is called tremolite. Its density varies between 3.0 and 3.4 (1 for water) and its hardness varies from 5 to 6/10 (10 for diamond) on the Mohs scale. The streak on porcelain is white. Actinolite generally occurs as short crystals in aggregates. Its color ranges from green to dark green. Its name comes from the Greek words " aktis, " meaning " ray, " and " lithos, " meaning " stone ."
