AVENTURINE belongs to the silicate group. It mainly contains silicon and has the same chemical formula as Quartz, Amethyst or Agate, SiO2.

Aventurine usually occurs in massive form. Its color can range from green to brown or red, depending on the other minerals it contains. The green color is due to inclusions of Fuchsite. The brown and red contain inclusions of Mica or Hematite.

Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 7/10 (10 for diamond) and its density is 2.7 (1 for water). The line is white or colorless.

The name Aventurine owes its origin to an Italian word avventura which means chance.
