Cavansite belongs to the silicate group. It contains calcium, vanadium, and silicon. Cavansite usually occurs in rosette-shaped crystals of a beautiful royal blue. It is often associated with Heulandite. Its name comes simply from the abbreviation of the elements it contains. Cavansite is considered quite rare.

HEULANDITE belongs to the silicate group. It contains calcium, aluminum, silicon, and water. Its chemical formula is CaAl 2 Si 7 O 18 .6H 2 O.

The average hardness of Heulandite ranges from 3.5 to 4/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond) and its density is 2.2 (1 for water). The line on porcelain is white or colorless.

Heulandite usually occurs as elongated, flat, tabular crystals with a coffin-like shape. It is often associated with Cavansite or Apophyllite. Like them, Heulandite is a member of the zeolites (a group of minerals whose porous structure is essentially composed of aluminosilicate and water molecules. Thus, when a zeolite is heated, the crystals bend as the water evaporates).

Heulandite is usually white but can also be found in green, yellow, red or brown.

The name Heulandite is taken from the name of the English mineralogist JH Heuland.
