Dioptase on rock - DR Congo - crystal minerals 4.2 cm / 24g / BL940

There DIOPTASE belongs to the group of silicates. It contains silicon and copper. Its chemical formula is CuSiO ₂ (OH ₂ ).
DIOPTASE occurs in a crystalline form with prismatic crystals, but also in massive aggregates of dark green-blue color. It is often associated with Quartz and chrysocolla.
Dioptase has a hardness of 5/10 on the Mohs scale and a density of 3 (1 for water). The line on porcelain is pale blue-green. It often has the same color as emerald and can be confused with it.
The name Dioptase comes from two Greek names, "dia" and "opsis" which mean "through" and "vision".
