LAPIS LAZULI is the result of a combination of 4 minerals: Lazurite in large proportion (blue color), Sodalite (dark blue color), Calcite (white color) and Pyrite (golden color).
Lazurite belongs to the group of silicates, it contains sodium, calcium, aluminum, silicon and sulfur.
LAPIS LAZULI is quite rare. Its color is the intense dark blue produced by Lazurite and Sodalite. The hardness of Lazurite is greater than 5/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond) and its average density is 2.4 (1 for water). The line on porcelain is light blue.
The name Lapis Lazuli comes from two Latin words, lapis and lazuli , which mean stone and blue . It has been used for thousands of years, especially by the Egyptians, to make precious objects.
