HELIOTROPE or BLOODJASPER belongs to the silicate group. It contains mainly silicon and has the same chemical formula as Quartz, SiO2.

It is a variety of chalcedony with microscopic crystallization.

It is mainly found in massive form. It is a very hard stone that reaches 7/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond). Its density is 2.7 (1 for water) and the line on porcelain is white.

Red Jasper contains hematite, green Jasper contains iron silicate, creamy-white to gray Jasper contains clay.

Blood Jasper or Heliotrope or Sanguine is a variety of green Jasper containing blood-red parts.
