Blood Jasper or Heliotrope or Sanguine belongs to the silicate group. It mainly contains silicon and has the same chemical formula as Quartz or Amethyst. It is a variety of chalcedony. Heliotrope occurs in massive microcrystalline form, dark in color with red spots due to Hematite. It is a very hard stone. The red in Blood Jasper comes from Hematite and the green from iron silicate.
