Jadeite, mined in South and Central America and Myanmar (Burma), is one of two minerals that bear the name JADE, along with Nephrite, mined in China. Jadeite has a massive, granular form and its crystals are rare. Its color varies, from white to green to yellow to lilac. Its hardness is approximately 6.5/10 on the Mohs scale and its density is greater than 3.2 (1 for water). The line on porcelain is white.
The name Jadeite comes from the Spanish "piedra de ijada" which means "kidney stone", in the sense that this stone would relieve this part of the body.
