LARIMAR belongs to the silicate group. It contains calcium, sodium, and silicon. Its chemical formula is Ca 2 Na(Si 3 O 8 OH). LARIMAR is a blue variety of Pectolite. It occurs in massive form and its color varies from dark blue to white.
Larimar has a hardness greater than 5/10 and its density is less than 2.9 (1 for water). The line on the porcelain is white. This rare mineral is mined only in the Dominican Republic. Its name comes from a combination of the first name of the discoverer's daughter and the word "mar", sea in Spanish.
