LEPIDOLITE belongs to the silicate group. It contains potassium, aluminum, silicon, fluorine, and lithium. Its chemical formula is K(Li,Al3)(AlSi3)O10(OH,F)2. It is a mica.

LEPIDOLITE occurs in a raw form, with hummocky or scale-shaped, tabular crystals, ranging in color from pink to light purple, yellow, or colorless. Its density is 3 (1 for water) and its average hardness is around 3/10. The line on the porcelain is colorless.

Its name comes from the combination of two Greek words "lepidos" and "lithos" which mean "scale" and "stone".
