ARAGONITE belongs to the carbonate group and contains calcium and carbon. It is a crystallized form of limestone, a limestone carbonate. Its chemical formula is CaCO3.

ARAGONITE can have radiating, prismatic, dendritic, or acicular crystals. The ball shape is a particular arrangement of prismatic crystals.

Aragonite has a density of 2.9 (1 for water) and a hardness of over 3.5/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond). The line on porcelain is white.

Its color is most often brown, but it is also found colorless, green, blue or white.

Its name comes from the city of Aragon in Spain.
