Prasiolite or Prase Quartz belongs to the silicate group. Its chemical formula is SiO2.

It is a macrocrystalline variety of Quartz. The greenish color of Prasiolite is due to the presence of iron and its name comes, like chrysoprase, from the Greek 'prason' which means 'leek'.

Prasiolite has the same hardness as quartz, 7/10, and a density of 2.7 (1 for water). The line on porcelain is white.
