MIMETITE belongs to the arsenate group. It contains lead, arsenic, oxygen and chlorine. Its chemical formula is Pb 5 (AsO 4 ) 3 Cl.

It has crystals in the shape of cubes, barrels, prismatic, acicular, or rounded masses. Mimetite resembles pyromorphite, hence its name. In the case of mimetite, arsenic replaces phosphorus. The color of the crystals varies around yellow, green, and orange. Mimetite is a lead ore.

The hardness of Mimetite is greater than 3.5/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond) and its density varies around 7.2 (1 for water). The line on the porcelain is white.

The name Mimetite comes from the Greek word mimethes and means imitator .
