QUARTZ belongs to the silicate group. It mainly contains silicon. Its chemical formula is SiO2.
It appears in massive form or prismatic crystals. Depending on the impurities it contains, this mineral displays various colors such as pink, yellow, red, brown, purple or black and is also found in colorless form.
It is a very common mineral found in almost all types of rock. Morion Quartz owes its color to impurities reacting with the radioactivity released by certain minerals such as Torbernite.
The hardness of Quartz on the Mohs scale is 7/10 (10 for diamond) and its density is 2.7 (1 for water). The line is white or colorless.
The name Quartz comes from German.
TORBERNITE belongs to the phosphate group. It contains copper, phosphate, and uranium. Its chemical formula is Cu(UO2)2(PO4)2.8-12H2O.
Torbernite has thick tabular crystals or leaf-like clusters. Torbernite has a bright green color and a metallic luster. Its specific gravity is 3.2 (1 for water) and its hardness is greater than 2/10. The line on the porcelain is light green. It is a radioactive mineral.
Its name comes from its discoverer Torbern Bergmann.
