Sodalite belongs to the silicate group. It contains chlorinated sodium, aluminum, and silicon. Its chemical formula is Na4Al3Si3O12Cl.

It usually occurs in a massive form. Its color can be white, but it is generally light to intense blue, and in the Middle Ages it sometimes replaced the blues of Lapis Lazuli or Azurite, which were rare and expensive.
