SODALITE belongs to the silicate group. It contains sodium chloride, aluminum, and silicon. Its chemical formula is Na4Al3Si3O12Cl.

It usually occurs in a massive form. Its color can be white but is generally light blue to intense blue and in the Middle Ages it sometimes replaced the blues of Lapis Lazuli or Azurite, which were rare and expensive.

Its hardness is slightly less than 6/10 and its average density is 2.2 (1 for water). The line is white to light blue.
