Lapis lazuli belongs to the silicate group. It contains sodium, iron, calcium, aluminum, and silicon. Lapis lazuli is quite rare. Its color is an intense dark blue. It has been used for thousands of years, particularly by the Egyptians, to craft precious objects. Lapis lazuli is mainly composed of lazurite (blue) but also contains several other elements such as pyrite (golden veins) and sodalite (blue).
