Topaz occurs in prismatic crystals. Topaz comes in a wide range of colors, including colorless, blue, brown, green, and sherry yellow from Brazil is highly sought after, as are pinks.
Sometimes confused with Aquamarine or even diamond, as was the case for the Braganza of the Portuguese crown in the 17th century.
IMPERIAL TOPAZ is orange in color, ranging from golden yellow to pale yellow to orange-brown. The most sought-after gems for cutting are orange-red and golden orange. Its hardness is 8/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamonds) and its density varies around 3.5 (1 for water). The line is colorless.
The name Topaz comes from the name of the island of Topasos in the Red Sea.
