Almandine is a variety of garnet belonging to the silicate family. Its formula is Fe3Al2 ( SiO4 ) 3 . Its color ranges from red to dark red. Its name comes from the ancient city of Alabanda in Turkey, which, through linguistic evolution , became "almandine." Its hardness is 7/10 on the Mohs scale.
