CHRYSOCOLLA belongs to the silicate group. It contains copper and silicon. Its chemical formula is Cu2H2(Si2O5)(OH)4,nH2O.
Chrysocolla has a massive or mammillary appearance. It is often associated with Malachite. Its usual colors are blue and blue-green. Chrysocolla is a very fragile mineral. Its hardness is equal to 3/10 and its density varies between 2 and 2.4 (1 for water). The line on porcelain is generally light blue.
Its name comes from two Greek words meaning gold and glue.
SHATTUCKITE belongs to the silicate group. It is a copper hydroxyl silicate. Its chemical formula is Cu5(SiO2)4(OH)2.
Very similar to PLANCHEITE, their hummocky structure is so similar that they are often confused. The color of Shattuckite varies from blue to green.
SHATTUCKITE has a hardness of 3.5/10 on the Mohs scale (PLANCHEITE 6/10 on the same scale). Its density is greater than 4 (1 for water) and its trace is blue on porcelain. The name Shattuckite comes from the name of the mine where it was found.
