Diamond
Diamond belongs to the group of native elements. It is composed of carbon, designated by the symbol C. It occurs in octahedral or pseudo-cubic form. Pure diamond is colorless but takes on various colors when it contains impurities, such as pink, yellow, orange, blue, brown, and black. Its hardness is 10/10 on the Mohs scale. Its density is greater than 3.4 (1 for water), and the streak on porcelain is colorless. The name diamond comes from the Greek word adamas , meaning unbreakable or untamable .
