Polished KYANITE or KYANITE or DISTHENE belongs to the silicate group. It contains aluminum and silicon. Its chemical formula is Al2SiO5.

The hardness of Kyanite varies between 4.5 and 6/10 depending on the scratch axis and its density is equal to 3.6 (1 for water). The line on the porcelain is colorless.

KYANITE has long, flat, prismatic crystals resembling lamellae.
Its color is mainly dark blue, hence the name Kyanite which comes from the Greek word corresponding to the color.
