It is a white, brittle, heavy metal with a beautiful iridescence when not oxidized. BISMUTH is a poor conductor of heat and electricity.
Its density is slightly less than 10 (1 for water) and its hardness is 2.5/10 on the Mohs scale (10 for diamond). The line on porcelain is metallic gray.
BISMUTH is mainly used in alloys with other metals. The beautiful crystals are artificial specimens, but naturally occurring crystallized BISMUTH also exists and is known as "skeleton" crystallization.
